In May 2016, Covanta confirmed its intention to construct and operate an Energy-from-Waste facility at Rookery South Pit, a former brick clay extraction pit near Stewartby. The Rookery Pit site was identified as a potential strategic site by the former Bedfordshire County Council in its Waste Site selection process in 2007. Covanta’s proposed facility originally received planning permission in 2013. We understand that Covanta now intends to exercise its right to progress with the development, subject to meeting all the necessary conditions that were imposed at that time. Covanta has an option to buy the land at Rookery Pit from O&H Properties Ltd. We expect it to take up that option. There is no other relationship between O&H Properties and Covanta or its partners. Details of the facility and all its proposed development and community activities are available on Covanta's Rookery South website.
Millbrook Power Ltd also has unrelated plans to build a gas-fired power station at Rookery South. The company decided against submitting an application for a Development Consent Order in 2016, but has said that it may look to submit an application in 2017. We have no involvement in this development. Please refer to the Millbrook Power website.
