Landscape

Marston Vale has, due to the Community Forest initiative achieved areas of existing and establishing woodland throughout the Vale. The proposed planting as part of the Landscape Strategy of The Marston Vale Eco Town will further expand and deliver woodland, making tree cover a much more dominant feature within the landscape.

Our aim is to secure the environmental regeneration of the Vale; manage new and existing woodland and provide access to sport and recreation.
Water in the Vale will also play a key role in shaping its future: Stewartby and Brogborough lakes will be at the heart of the development as a focus for leisure and recreation, with waterways and wetland connecting much of the settlement.

Open spaces will also form a vital part of a ‘new’ Marston Vale.  Generous areas of formal as well as informal spaces will be provided through playing fields, leisure facilities and areas for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

And to reflect the demand for families to become more self-sustainable, we will also make provision for allotments and orchards across the Vale.

In this way, a rich and varied tapestry of green spaces, including woodland, water, agriculture and open space will be created, with improved connections for both wildlife and people. The new landscape will respect and emphasise the character of the aspects of the Vale, the ridges, the slopes and the valley floor.
