Our vision is to make Marston Vale one of the most cohesive communities in the country. Communities that are safe and promote healthy lifestyles, have access to services, jobs and learning, foster active local citizenship and are pleasant places to live, work and visit.
At the heart of our community strategy is our commitment to include existing communities in the evolution of the eco-town and to assist existing residents and businesses in reducing their carbon footprint. We would like to identify any residents who feel they could positively contribute to shaping the eco-town and to assist in integrating existing and new communities.
Education: schools will be provided to the number and standard of the local education authority. Schools for younger children will form the nucleus of local neighbourhood centres, while secondary schools will be located in easily accessible locations and co-located with family-friendly facilities.
Healthcare: we will work with the Primary Care Providers and Health Trusts to ensure that local healthcare provision is made within the community.
Culture: there will be provision for a range of leisure, arts and cultural facilities. We believe that these facilities, including opportunities for public art, are an important part of community building and enhance the sense of place.
Education: Marston Vale won’t just be about schools for children, we want to develop a strategy that will provide opportunities for everybody, with schools open for community use and will be at the heart of the new settlement. The new schools will benefit existing residents as well those moving into the area and we are already working with the education authority and other organisations to develop proposals that will complement the existing schools in the area and provide flexibility for the future as requirements change.
Governance: we will explore appropriate, community structures which will eventually embrace the day-to-day running of the town.
